Alvarez & Marsal Tax hires two managing directors in Spain
Alvarez & Marsal Tax has strengthened its team in Spain with the hire of two new managing directors: Ángel Calleja and Borja Escrivá de Romaní. Both operate out of the firm’s Madrid office.
Ángel Calleja brings more than 35 years of experience in tax to Alvarez & Marsal, covering all main taxes, with a strong focus on corporate taxation and transfer pricing. He acts as a trusted senior advisor to boards and top management, addressing sensitive tax, legal, accounting and financial matters affecting listed corporations. He also brings wide experience in conducting milestone tax controversy cases, high-level negotiations with governments and lobbying before regulators.
Throughout his career, he has worked on cases across multiple industries, including telecom, energy, mobility, hospitality, technology, construction, retail, financial services and private equity, serving clients across Europe, Asia, the US, Latin America, and Africa.
Prior to joining Alvarez & Marsal Tax, Calleja was with White & Case, where he served as Head of Tax in Madrid. Previously, he served as a partner with J&A Garrigues.
Borja Escrivá de Romaní brings more than 30 years of experience as a tax advisor to Alvarez & Marsal, specialising in domestic and cross-border M&A transactions and corporate and financial restructuring of multinational groups.
He works with large corporations and financial investors (mainly Spanish and international private equity, real estate and infrastructure/energy funds), providing transaction advice from a tax perspective on due diligence, deal structure, financial models, sale and purchase agreements, financing documents and management incentive packages.
De Romaní also has experience with fund and carried-interest tax structuring. He has provided recurring tax advice on direct/indirect taxation and tax audits and proceedings for Spanish and multinational corporate groups and has participated in complex debt refinancing and restructuring processes.
Prior to joining Alvarez & Marsal, De Romaní was a partner at Deloitte, where he worked for 20 years. He started his career as a tax lawyer with the law firm Bufete Jose Mario Armero.
