Devoteam helps Save the Children streamline Spanish operations with AWS solution

French technology consulting company Devoteam collaborated with Save the Children to implement an AWS-powered data solution that has enhanced donor insights and campaign effectiveness in Spain while reducing costs of operating.
The Spanish arm of Save the Children, a vital local branch of the global non-governmental organization dedicated to protecting children’s rights, has successfully transformed its operations thanks to its collaboration with Devoteam, an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Premier Consulting Partner.
Facing challenges with its outdated on-premises data management system, Save the Children was looking for a scalable solution to better integrate and analyze information from diverse sources. The organization’s data was scattered across various different platforms (such as Salesforce CRM, Marketing Cloud, and Google Analytics), which hindered the NGO’s ability to personalize outreach to donors, and ultimately to fundraise effectively.
To fix this problem, the NGO sought the help of Devoteam, which centralized data from different sources through the use of AWS technology, including Amazon AppFlow, Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), and AWS Database Migration Service (DMS). The new solution also helped to enhance analytics and streamline operations.
Notably, the migration involved transferring 147.5 million data records within five months, each containing up to 400 fields, from the on-premises SQL Server to Aurora.
“The proof of concept Devoteam provided was impressive – we quickly realized how our capabilities could be transformed,” said Raúl González García, application area manager with Save the Children in Spain.
The ROI
The transition to AWS has helped Save the Children save around €12,000 in annual operational costs, which include maintenance savings and reduced Salesforce storage expenses. The new solution has also led to a 10% improvement in campaign performance, thanks to improved targeting and personalization.
These savings are important because every euro saved is redirected to Save the Children’s mission of providing aid and support to children worldwide. The NGO operates in over 120 countries and impacts around 55 million children per year.
This new cloud data solution has also benefited the NGO staff. The automation of data processing has reduced manual effort, allowing staff to focus on more important initiatives. Additionally, the move to AWS has strengthened data protection measures, with features like multi-factor authentication and VPN access.
Working in the cloud
AWS is a comprehensive cloud service that offers 200 different services from data centers around the world. Its tools are used to code, build, test, and ultimately deploy applications quickly and easily from the cloud.
As a subsidiary of American tech giant Amazon, AWS competes with other cloud service providers like Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and others. These types of cloud services are increasingly popular in Europe because they can save a lot of money for companies that struggle to build the server capacity required to host their own services.
