Accenture acquires Danish digital solutions group Mjølner Informatics
Accenture has acquired Mjølner Informatics, the IT subsidiary of Danish telecoms and utility group Norlys, in a deal that will see more than 400 employees join the global consulting firm.
Mjølner Informatics was founded as Mjølner Informatik by nine computer scientists in Aarhus in 1988 as a spin-off of a Norwegian research and development project called Mjølner. The firm today develops digital solutions for clients across a range of disciplines, including data science, the internet of things, innovation, customer research, experience design, and industrial automation.
The acquisition of Mjølner Informatics strengthens Accenture’s digital engineering capabilities in software development, artificial intelligence and business-critical solutions.
Commenting on the acquisition, Nicole van Det, CEO for the Netherlands and Nordics, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Mjølner Informatics team. Their expertise will help us tackle bigger technology challenges and create even more value for our clients. This also marks an important step in expanding our presence in Denmark and across the wider Nordics region.”
Accenture has bought Mjølner Informatics from Norlys, which took a 95% stake in the company four years ago. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The deal expands Accenture’s workforce with around 400 people across four offices in Denmark (Aarhus, Copenhagen , Silkeborg, Fredericia) and a nearshore delivery centre in Spain (Madrid).
In Denmark, Accenture is estimated to now have approximately 1,400 people across its different business units.
Meanwhile, for Mjølner Informatics, the joining of forces with the global giant will enable the company to deliver larger and more integrated digital solutions, spanning the full project lifecycle from strategic concept development through to large-scale implementation. As part of the agreement, Mjølner Informatics will continue to support its former parent Norlys as its strategic partner for digital development.
