McKinsey appoints Andreas Venus as Managing Partner for Germany and Austria
McKinsey & Company has appointed Andreas Venus as its new Managing Partner for Germany and Austria. He succeeds Fabian Billing on the 1st of August 2026.
The leadership change brings a new face to the top of one of Germany’s most prestigious consulting firms, while maintaining continuity within McKinsey’s business. Venus has spent more than 15 years at the strategy consulting giant and has built his career around some of the industries at the centre of Germany and Austria’s economic transformation – including automotive, industrials, aerospace, and advanced technology.
Billing, who has led the German and Austrian organisation since March 2021, will step away from the country leadership role following his election to the firm’s highest governing body, the Shareholders Council.
Under McKinsey’s updated governance approach, supervisory responsibilities and operational leadership will be separated, requiring Shareholders Council members to relinquish country management positions.
During his tenure, Billing guided McKinsey’s German-speaking organisation through a period of significant growth and transformation. Companies across the region faced pandemic-related challenges, supply chain volatility, geopolitical uncertainty, rising energy costs, and accelerating technological change – all while increasing their focus on productivity, resilience, and artificial intelligence.
Billing highlighted that McKinsey’s work with clients has increasingly centred on helping organisations make strategic choices while improving operational performance. “Our aspiration is to be a trusted partner that does not just advise, but stands together with our clients for results,” he said.
Industry specialist takes the helm
Venus brings a strong industry background to the role. The 42-year-old joined McKinsey & Company in 2009 and became Senior Partner in 2021. Since 2020, he has led McKinsey’s Berlin office and has also headed the firm’s Advanced Industries practice in Germany and Austria.
His appointment comes at a time when key industrial sectors in the region, including automotive, aerospace, electronics and semiconductors, are undergoing profound change. Germany’s automotive sector, in particular, is navigating the transition to electric mobility, software-defined vehicles, new supply chain models, and increasing competition from global technology players.
Venus has advised companies on a range of transformation topics, including improving product development and procurement performance, redesigning product strategies using customer data, accelerating charging infrastructure businesses, and identifying new digital and data-driven revenue opportunities.
Alongside his industry leadership, Venus has played a role in advancing McKinsey’s AI and data analytics agenda in Germany.
Before joining McKinsey, Venus gained experience outside consulting, working for JPMorgan Chase, Nike and the United Nations.
McKinsey in Germany and Austria
McKinsey has a long-standing presence in Germany, having established its first office in Düsseldorf in 1964. Over the past six decades, the firm has grown into one of the country’s leading management consultancies, advising many of Germany’s largest companies across industries.
The consultancy expanded into Austria in 1971. Today, the Germany and Austria business has nearly 3,000 consultants and staff.
