Oliver Wyman appoints Partners in Germany, France and Italy

Oliver Wyman, a management consultancy with more than 5,000 professionals across offices in nearly 30 countries, has appointed new Partners in three European mainland countries: Germany, France and Italy. 

Marco Buonomo is based in Milan and has been with Oliver Wyman for over eleven years, joining in 2007 after obtaining a Master’s degree in Economics at the LUISS in Rome. Buonomo, who has gained significant experience in the Retail and Banking sectors, specialises in commercial strategy, business transformation programmes, digital and advanced analytics. 

Rome-based Massimo Castaldo has been at Oliver Wyman since 2010 and is a member of the firm’s Finance and Risk practice. Specialising in credit risk management, he has supported numerous banking institutions across EMEA with designing and implementing internal rating models and risk schemes. Castaldo, who graduated in Statistical and Economic Sciences at the La Sapienza University of Rome and obtained an MBA from the MIT - Sloan School of Management, previously worked for Deloitte and Moody's Analytics.

Federico Ucci has worked in Oliver Wyman’s Paris office since 2009, where he supported clients in the transport, aviation, aerospace and railway sectors. His promotion to Partner sees Ucci relocate to the Milan office, where he joins the firm’s Transportation, Aerospace & Defense practices. Prior to serving the global management consulting firm, he worked at Air France and was a professor of Strategy at ESCP Europe.

Commenting on the three leaders to join the firm’s ranks in Italy, Giovanni Viani, a leader in Oliver Wyman’s South Eastern Europe division, said, “The promotions of Marco, Massimo and Federico further strengthens the presence of Oliver Wyman in Italy. In all these years, all three have demonstrated extreme professionalism and exceptional skills in their respective areas of specialisation.” The appointments come weeks after Oliver Wyman Italy added senior advisors Paolo Vagnone and Roberto Scaramella to its team.

Sebastian Janssen is a Partner in the Transport and Services practice of Oliver Wyman. Based in Munich, he advises logistics and transport companies and their suppliers on transformation projects across the entire value chain. His work focuses on supply chain management and manufacturing operations. Janssen has a doctorate in business administration and has studied at universities in Göttingen, Madrid and Los Angeles. 

Belgian national Kevin Smeets has been appointed a Partner in Oliver Wyman’s Paris office. Smeets, who joined the firm in 2008, focuses on Operations and Product Development projects, mainly in the transportation and railway sectors. In one of his most engagements, he helped a railway client in France optimise its strategy and operations across the life cycle – from strategic planning, fleet plan and acquisition and financing, to engineering management and operational productivity & maintenance. He obtained a Master’s degree in Business Engineering at Solvay Brussels School.

The five Partner appointments in Europe are part of a wider raft of new joiners to the firm’s partnership, 28 in total effective January 1, 2019. among the group are also eight new Partners that joined the leadership team of Oliver Wyman’s UK office.
