The top 25 management consulting firms in Denmark
New research among graduates and young professionals in Denmark has revealed the country’s 25 most attractive management consulting firms to work for.
With an industry value of €2.9 billion, Denmark is home to Scandinavia’s second largest consulting market, trailing just Sweden. The country’s mature consulting market means that nearly all major international consulting groups have a presence in the country, including over half of the world’s ten largest strategy consulting firms and all four of the Big Four accounting and consulting giants. Denmark is also home to a number of home grown international consultancies and dozens of local boutiques.
According to ADMCF, the Association of Danish management consulting firms, the country’s industry employs some 19,500 employees, of which 18,000 are consultants (fee-earners), with 1,500 in staff roles. An estimated 15% of the consultant population – some 2,700 consultants – are hired to meet growing demand (+8% in 2018) and cover attrition, with one third of these roles filled at the entry-level.
In a survey filled in by students following a degree at many of Denmark’s top universities, including the University of Copenhagen, Aarhus University, the Technical University of Denmark, Aalborg University, Copenhagen Business School and Roskilde University, graduates were asked to identify which management consulting firms they would be most keen to join after completing their studies. The survey, conducted by Graduateships, asked students to assess the reputation, career attractiveness and overall popularity of consulting firms with a Danish operation. The trio of the globe’s largest strategy consulting firms – McKinsey, BCG and Bain – are in the eyes of graduates the top consultancies to work for. Global rivals A.T. Kearney ranks fifth and Strategy& twelfth, with other traditional competitors such as OC&C Strategy Consultants, L.E.K. Consulting, Oliver Wyman and Roland Berger not listed as they don’t have a base in Denmark – the latter two firms serve the region through their Stockholm offices.
Qvartz, a local Danish-origin management consulting firm with over 500 employees internationally ranks fourth, with Accenture, PA Consulting and Simon-Kucher & Partners completing the top ten, alongside two in-house consulting firms. Novo Nordisk Consulting is the advisory arm of pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk, while the slightly larger Maersk Management Consulting is the in-house consultancy wing of the globe’s largest container ship and supply vessel operator.
