Rainer Bizenberger leads EY’s Restructuring practice for EMEIA
EY has appointed the German Rainer Bizenberger – formerly a partner at rivals AlixPartners and Roland Berger – as Head of its Restructuring practice for the Europe, Middle East, India and Africa (EMEIA) region.
The appointment comes at a time of heightened demand for restructuring services, amid a growing number of businesses that are struggling with a more competitive, and particularly disruptive landscape.
EY has set its sights on growing its market presence in the segment, which is traditionally dominated by the Big Four alongside management consultancies such as AlixPartners, Alvarez & Marsal, FTI Consulting and Roland Berger.
The 44-year-old Bizenberger brings around two decades of experience to EY, and has been mandated with expanding the firm’s offerings and client base in the EMEIA region. EY’s Restructuring practice, which is housed within its Transaction Advisory Services division (part of Advisory), supports clients with among others crisis management, turnaround, insolvency and bankruptcies, working capital management and capital markets.
Most recently, Bizenberger worked at AlixPartners, where he was a Managing Director based in Munich. Before that, he worked fourteen years for Roland Berger, latterly as a senior partner in its Restructuring arm and co-head of the Berlin office.
During his consulting career, he led several large-scale, complex restructuring and transformation programs across various industries. He also gained experience as an interim manager, including serving as interim chief restructuring officer for a $1 billion turnover company active in 20 countries worldwide.
“My passion is helping companies navigate the complexities of restructuring and transformation, and those clients profit from my expertise in turning around, transforming, or refinancing their businesses,” Bizenberger said.
Bizenberger becomes the second high profile consultant to join EY’s Restructuring wing. A few months ago, Falco Weidemeyer – a senior partner at Roland Berger and office head of its Frankfurt office – also joined the Big Four firm. He leads the Reshaping Results practice for EMEIA, a unit which provides multi-disciplinary services in the area of turnaround and performance improvement.
According to claims from EY, the firm has around 600 employees in the EMEIA region working in the field of restructuring.
