Celonis executive Marcell Vollmer joins BCG as partner
Marcell Vollmer has exited his role as Chief Innovation Officer at Celonis to take up a new job with Boston Consulting Group. As a Partner, he will help drive the firm’s digital transformation offering in its Operations practice.
Prior to joining Celonis, Marcell Vollmer was a 15-year SAP veteran, serving as Chief Digital Officer at SAP Ariba where he drove IT strategies to help the world’s leading companies eliminate procurement and supply chain complexity. Before that he was Chief Procurement Officer at SAP – leading over 200 professionals who managed billions in global spend volume, and created and led a shared services team. Prior to that, he held project and finance roles roles at SAP.
Vollmer spent the last year as Chief Innovation Officer at Celonis, focusing on supporting go-to-market teams, customers and partners through their digital transformation journey. As a proponent of the power of process mining – an analytical discipline for discovering, monitoring, and improving real processes – he helped clients streamline their enterprise operations and use the power of process-driven insights to drive innovation.
Celonis is a software provider specialised in business transformation software. Its Intelligent Business Cloud looks to support companies in removing operational friction and becoming more fluid as enterprises. Founded in 2011, the firm has grown rapidly in recent years – and last year became one of the very few tech start-ups to achieve unicorn status, while establishing process mining as global software category.
As he bid farewell to his previous employers at the end of July, Vollmer made a much-publicised address to his LinkedIn network. “It’s certainly a bit sad leaving such a great team and friends,” Vollmer wrote, “[but] on the other side I am really excited in joining Boston Consulting Group (BCG) as partner in August.”
“I am very excited to join an amazing team and looking forward to continuing to drive digital transformation in procurement and supply chain. Helping customers to be successful is my inner passion and BCG is by far the best place I could envision to be. I hope we all stay in touch, stay safe and have great success in the future.”
Vollmer’s post has since received over 1,700 likes and comments – with previous employers, colleagues and well-wishers from BCG among those writing to him. Berkay Yöndemli, Senior Customer Engagement Executive at SAP Ariba, wished Vollmer “a heartfelt congratulations,” before stating, “BCG is lucky to have you!”
Janina Nakladal, Senior Academic Alliance Manager at Celonis, meanwhile wished Vollmer “all the best for the adventures to come, and thanked him for “all our great conversations, your support at any time, your engagement with customers, partners, employees and students… really memorable and inspirational!”
Commenting from BCG, meanwhile, Stefan Gstettner, a Partner and Associate Director at the firm’s Frankfurt presence, said, “Welcome to BCG, Marcell, great news! Looking forward to collaborating and obviously the Frankfurt office is a great choice.”
