Magnus Tyreman new boss of McKinsey & Company Europe
McKinsey & Company has appointed a new Regional Managing Partner for its European operations. Company veteran Magnus Tyreman takes up the role following over three decades years with the strategy and management consulting giant.
The European wing of McKinsey & Company was previously led by former Norwegian Air Force Officer Pal Erik Sjatil, who as part of his role relocated from the firm’s Moscow to Paris office. He is now being succeeded by another Nordic consultant, in the form of Magnus Tyreman.
Having joined the consultancy in 1988 straight from university (Stockholm School of Economics), Tyreman is a seasoned McKinsey professional, and has worked in Europe for most of his time with the firm.
Before taking the reins of the European network at the start of this month, he led the firm’s risk, audit, and governance committee, and has held a number of other positions including a four-year spell as Managing Partner for Scandinavia, and leader of the Pharmaceuticals & Medical Products practice for EMEA and later on a global basis.
Primarily based in Stockholm, Tyreman primarily serves clients in the healthcare and life-sciences, telecommunications, and advanced industries sectors, as well as in the public sector. He works across a range of topics with a particular emphasis on strategy, organisation, and large-scale transformations.
As Managing Partner for McKinsey in Europe, Tyreman leads a network of over 25 country teams, including its larger teams in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Scandinavia. He is end responsible for all of McKinsey’s brands, including its traditional strategy consulting unit trading as McKinsey & Company, as well as McKinsey Implementation, McKinsey Design, McKinsey Digital, and McKinsey Solutions.
The role sees him become a member of McKinsey’s Shareholders Council, the firm’s equivalent of a board of directors, and of its 16-person global leadership, headed by Global Managing Partner Kevin Sneader, who succeeded Dominic Barton just about two years ago.
Other regional leaders of McKinsey include Gassan Al-Kibsi (Middle East), Oliver Tonby (Asia Pacific), Liz Hilton Segel (North America), Fernando Ferrari-Haines (Latin America) and Acha Leke (Africa).
Sjatil meanwhile remains a Senior Partner at McKinsey, according to his LinkedIn profile. He previously was Managing Partner of McKinsey’s offices in Africa, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Russia/CIS, and Turkey (2014 - 2018) and led McKinsey’s office in Norway (2007 - 2010), among others.
According to data by Consultancy.org, McKinsey & Company is the globe’s leading strategy consulting firm.
