Alvarez & Marsal has continued the expansion of its restructuring capabilities in the Nordics with the appointment of Kristoffer Ståhlbröst, who joins from EY to lead the practice regionally.

The newly appointed Managing Director brings over two decades of experience in complex stressed and distressed transactions to the global management consulting firm. Prior to joining, he was a Partner and Nordic Leader for Corporate Finance at Big Four firm EY, responsible for its offerings in mergers & acquisitions, valuations, and restructuring and turnaround.

Before that, Ståhlbröst gained more than 12 years of investment banking experience, focusing on restructuring, leveraged finance, corporate finance and credit at various investment banks across Europe. Most recently, he served as Head of Corporate Restructurings in the Nordics for Royal Bank of Scotland and earlier he served Kaupthing Bank and Handelsbanken.

His track record includes leading some of the largest restructuring engagements in Scandinavia and Continental Europe, focused on advising creditors, shareholders, management teams and new investors on how they can preserve value and maximise recoveries or returns.

“I am delighted to be joining a growing team and expanding the restructuring practice to help clients navigate stressed and distressed situations. Alvarez & Marsal’s hands-on, integrated approach provides a strong foundation for driving change and maximising value for clients,” said Ståhlbröst.

According to Richard Fleming, Head of the firm’s Restructuring practice in EMEA, the appointment signals the firm’s commitment to a service area which is enjoying heightened demand in light of the current Covid-19 pandemic. “Kristoffer’s expertise solidifies our ability to help clients across the Nordics,” he said.

The senior hire dovetails with the recent hiring of Nordics-based Managing Directors Jonas Rickardsson and Dan Andersson to develop the financial restructuring and CRO services offerings.

In the Nordics, Alvarez & Marsal has offices in Stockholm (launched in 2017) and Oslo (launched this year) – alongside restructuring, the hubs also offer corporate transformation, private equity and transaction advisory services.

Globally, the consulting firm has over 5,000 employees, of which over 1,000 are based in Europe.
