Peter Gassmann new leader of strategic consultancy Strategy&

Global strategy consulting firm Strategy& has yet again elected a German as its global leader, appointing Peter Gassmann to step into the shoes of Joachim Rotering. 

The 54-year-old Peter Gassmann has been with Strategy& for fifteen years. A physicist by background, he joined the strategy consultancy in 2000 from an international investment bank, and during his first tenure at the consulting firm he grew the ranks to Principal level. In 2003, he switched to the banking sector, joining Commerzbank, where he spent six years, latterly as its Global Head Market & Operational Risk.

When he returned to Strategy& in 2010 (at the time still Booz & Company), he was appointed a partner in the Financial Services practice. Over the past decade, he has focused on advising global financial institutions and central banks on strategy and transformation projects, and internally held roles of ascending responsibility. 

Most recently, Gassmann was the Managing Director of Strategy& in Europe, and in a dual role, he also was PwC’s Global ESG Leader. He will retain both positions alongside leading Strategy&’s approximately 3,200 colleagues worldwide. 

“I am delighted by the confidence received from the Global Leadership Team,” said Gassmann. The firm’s former boss, Dusseldorf-based Joachim Rotering, led Strategy& for nearly four years. Similar to Gassmann, he previously led the European business, and has been with the company since its Booz & Company era. 

The appointment comes a week after Strategy& closed its first deal since forming seven years ago. “We are glad to have 67rockwell Consulting on board and we look forward to many successful projects together in the insurance industry,” commented Gassmann.
