Strategy&'s global leader Joachim Rotering joins Oliver Wyman

Oliver Wyman has made a big scoop in Europe, poaching Joachim Rotering from rival Strategy&. 

Joachim Rotering was a fifteen year Strategy& company member until the 1st of this month, having joined the global strategy consulting firm in 2006 (back then Booz & Company). He ascended the ranks to become Strategy&’s leader for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, and the past near four years he served as the firm’s Global Managing Partner. 

Commenting on his move to Oliver Wyman, Rotering said, “The combination of a clear growth path with a focus on strategic, results-oriented consulting in a global business model inspired me to take the next step in my consulting career with Oliver Wyman.” 

With over 5,000 employees in 60+ offices globally generating $2.1 billion in revenues, Oliver Wyman is one of the globe’s leading strategy and management consulting firms, larger than Rotering’s former employer Strategy& (which has around 3,000 employees). The consultancy works across all industries, but is particularly renowned for its expertise in the financial services, aviation and energy sectors.

Rotering has been appointed a senior partner in Oliver Wyman’s Energy & Natural Resources and Operations practices, and a member of the international management team, which is led by CEO Nick Studer.

Based in Hamburg, 57-year-old Rotering will focus on serving clients in the energy, chemical and steel sectors, specialising in growth and cost transformations, restructuring, sourcing, mergers & acquisitions and post-merger integration, sustainability transformations, and operational excellence. 

“The energy, chemical and steel sectors are facing major structural and strategic challenges. Joachim has the depth and breadth of international expertise required to successfully back our clients as they go through this transformation,” commented Francois Austin, a partner at Oliver Wyman and Global Head of the Energy and Natural Resources practice. 

Studer said, “We are delighted to have gained a world-leading expert in energy and industrials in Joachim. His decades of experience in shaping successful and sustainable change processes in companies will further underscore our positioning. His excellent network of contacts in Germany, EMEA and the world will also help us to expand our role as leading strategy consultancy.”

Meanwhile, at Strategy&, Rotering has been succeeded by another German: Peter Gassmann.
