Amit Rai re-joins BCG Digital Ventures as Managing Director

Amit Rai has been appointed as a Managing Director with BCG Digital Ventures. He returns to the firm, having left in 2018 to helm machine analytics firm MachineMax.

In 2014, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) launched a distinct digital label: BCG Digital Ventures (BCGDV). With this label BCG launched a separate practice to combine its consulting, design, and technology services aimed at building digital ventures with corporates and scale-ups.

This has positioned the firm well to tap into growing demand for digital consulting services across Europe, in response to challenges including climate change and the Covid-19 pandemic.

As BCG Digital Ventures continues to expand its offering across Europe, the firm has welcomed back Amit Rai. Joining as Managing Director and Partner, he originally spent one year with the firm as Venture Architect Director.

In the role, he led teams of product managers, engineers, designers, strategists and growth experts to imagine, build and launch market-disrupting businesses.

For the past four years, Rai was CEO of London based MachineMax, a breakthrough machine analytics service that helps construction and mining companies maximise machine productivity and profitability. Under Rai’s leadership, MachineMax helped revolutionise the heavy equipment industry, with the business growing to manage more than $300 million of assets in construction, mining, and industrial companies across 30 markets in six continents. It was wholly acquired by Shell in July 2021, at which point Rai decided the time was right for a new challenge.

“The last four years have been a dream come true for a business builder like me – taking an initial idea and turning it into a hugely successful business which has changed the world, won awards and left a lasting legacy,” Rai remarked. “Now, I’m looking forward to re-joining the BCGDV team and using my unique blend of insider knowledge and experience to help fuel the next wave of venture success stories.”

Prior to life with BCG Digital Ventures, Rai’s career began at Microsoft before joining McKinsey & Company where he led project teams at technology clients across the US and Europe. He went on to manage Nokia’s global marketing strategy across more than 100 countries and with a $1 billion budget, before spending two years at HERE’s London and Berlin offices, leading marketing across EMEA and APAC and product development within the Consumer division.
