Sourcing Champions holds inaugural Procurement Climate Council event
Consulting firm Sourcing Champions has organised its inaugural Procurement Climate Council event, in collaboration with procurement-focused solutions provider Valuedesk.
Incepted earlier this year, the Procurement Climate Council brings together senior leaders from across the procurement landscape to connect, share experiences, and inspire one another. Central theme of the council is sustainability.
Over the past years, procurement has increasingly become a primary driver of sustainability endeavours. By adopting sustainable procurement practices, organisations can better integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into the purchasing of goods and services, lower their carbon footprint, and more.
Held in Amsterdam last month, the first Procurement Climate Council event saw business executives, academics and consultants join minds on how the journey to net zero can be shaped, and what is needed to get there.
A round-up of some of the key takeaways:
“A ‘just approach’ is crucial to establishing minimum earth safety boundaries for all.” – Joyeeta Gupta, Professor of Environment, Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, University of Amsterdam
“ESG practices are the compass guiding us forward.” – Alexander Heijkamp, Sustainability and CSR Director; Lecturer MBA Nyenrode, Business School Nederland
“Use carbon accounting to accurately estimate and report on your Scope 3 emissions and establish a baseline for a net-zero journey.” – Representative of Ignite Procurement
“Sustainability needs to be holistically integrated with the strategic procurement system.” – Gerhard Heß, Professor of Procurement, Technische Hochschule Nürnberg
“Getting started, even in the absence of a perfect plan, is the most critical factor in a company’s journey toward achieving net-zero emissions.” – Dirk Jan de With, Sustainability Executive, former Chief Procurement Officer at Covestro and Vice President Procurement and Sustainability at Unilever
“While many companies are already prioritizing sustainability, some have yet to commit to achieving net zero emissions within a specific timeframe.” – Ingo Roßdeutscher, Co-Founder at Valuedesk
Commenting on the event, Robert Waalder, the founder of Sourcing Champions said: “The event was a resounding success, providing participants with valuable insights, meaningful connections, and a renewed commitment to sustainability in procurement. We look forward to the next edition, as we continue to collaborate, innovate, and push the boundaries to shape a more sustainable future.”
