Capgemini snaps up Belgrade-based HDL Design House
Capgemini has closed its second acquisition in a month, this time snapping up HDL Design House, a 300-person engineering firm.
Headquartered in Serbia’s capital city Belgrade, HDL Design House is a company specialised in silicon engineering. The firm generates the majority of its revenues from two segments: the semiconductor industry and automotive – both sectors use the firm’s silicon design and verification expertise to create more powerful, intelligent and connected chips.
While most people may be unaware, computer chips (or: semiconductors) are found in as good as every device used on the planet, from phones, laptops, cars and airplanes to even missile systems.
“HDL Design House is a leader in silicon innovation. They will strengthen our team and presence in Eastern Europe to further meet global demand for the latest generation of high-performance and ‘intelligent’ products. We are delighted to welcome them to Capgemini,” said William Roze, CEO of Capgemini Engineering.
The Serbian company will become part of Capgemini Engineering, Capgemini’s arm focused on technology engineering and R&D services (the arm builds on the €3.6 billion acquisition of Altran).
Capgemini Engineering serves mainly the industrial and high-tech industry, for which semiconductors are a “key enabler of the intelligent industry revolution” that is currently taking place, said Roze. “Silicon engineering services are a central piece in the convergence of products, software, data, and services for industrial leaders.”
Commenting on the joining of forces with the global consulting and technology firm, Predrag Markovic, President & CEO of HDL Design House said, “After 22 years of building and developing expertise for each and every step of systems on a chip implementation, and continuously increasing our capabilities in chip design services, we are now looking forward to embarking on our next chapter.”
“Joining Capgemini is a natural next step for us as we will become part of an important global and multidisciplinary organisation. It is a very exciting prospect for HDL Design House, our clients and employees.”
Earlier this month, Capgemini also announced the acquisition of the Financial Crime Compliance division of Exiger, seeing a team of financial crime experts join Capgemini’s ranks in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.
