Bain & Company expands AI practice with PiperLab acquisition
Bain & Company has expanded its capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) through the acquisition of PiperLab.
The deal adds a team of around 40 professionals to Bain & Company’s Advanced Analytics practice – the firm’s AI practice which now counts over 500 data scientists, machine learning engineers and operations research experts worldwide.
Based in Madrid, PiperLab provides companies with data-driven solutions that improve operations, increase productivity, and reduce costs. The firm has been in business since 2015 and has a notable track record in sectors such as insurance, telecom utilities, logistics, digital and media.
“Our acquisition of PiperLab will enhance our ability to help clients solve some of their most complex challenges at the intersection of business, data science and engineering – a task that can often be challenging, especially during the new era of generative AI,” said Roy Singh, partner at Bain & Company and global head of the Advanced Analytics practice.
The deal comes within a year of Bain & Company also snapping up Max Kelsen, an Australian AI and ML firm of roughly the same size. According to data from Consultancy.org, the strategy consulting giant has closed over 20 deals in the last five years.
Following integration, PiperLab will form the basis of a new Advanced Analytics and AI hub for Bain & Company in Europe.
“Our vision is to create an analytics powerhouse in Europe not only to better support our regional clients, but to contribute and add value to Bain's global efforts in our delivery of world-class work on AI initiatives by our clients across the region,” said Ignacio Otero, managing partner of Bain & Company in Iberia.
