Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri signs digital partnership with Accenture
Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has inked a strategic partnership with Accenture, aimed at driving digitization and digital innovation within the company and the broader cruise, defense and port services sectors.
Headquartered in Trieste, Fincantieri is one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups. Since its inception over 230 years ago, Fincantieri has built more than 7,000 vessels. Today, the company operates 18 large shipyards across 4 continents and employs almost 20,000 employees.
Working with Accenture, Fincantieri aims to tap into the power of technology to improve its services in two domains: digital ships and maritime infrastructure.
The first domain will see Accenture build a technological platform that uses advanced digital products and services to integrate functions on board ships. These products will span the full life cycle, from ship repairs and conversions, to systems and components production and after-sales services.
Secondly, Accenture will help Fincantieri develop innovative digital transformation solutions to make ports smarter, safer and more efficient.
“Our strategic plan makes it clear that we aim to be pioneers in industrializing new digital solutions, focusing on managing the entire lifecycle of a ship, not just its construction,” said Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and General Manager of Fincantieri.
Commenting on the collaboration with Accenture, the chief executive said: “We see Accenture as a partner that will enhance our operational presence in Italy and abroad, boost our credibility with global clients, and strengthen our investment capacity and business development capabilities for services on an international scale.”
Mauro Macchi, President and CEO of Accenture in Italy, stated: “This important initiative with strategic player Fincantieri lays the groundwork for an important technological leap forward which will create new value in a sector that is fundamental for our country and for the global economy. We are looking forward to supporting Fincantieri’s digital journey.”
