Boston Consulting Group appoints Tessa van Swieten to lead its Netherlands operations
Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has appointed Tessa van Swieten as Managing Partner of its Amsterdam office. She steps into the shoes of Dirk-Maarten Molenaar and become becomes the first woman to hold the role since its inception in the Dutch market.
Tessa van Swieten has worked for the global strategy and management consultancy for more than ten years. She is part of the public sector practice and advises clients on digitalisation and AI transformation, strengthening the public sector, resilience, and the energy transition.
Internally, Van Swieten most recently led ‘Unlocking Potential’ – a Boston Consulting Group initiative focused on promoting wellbeing and mental health among consultants, as well as advancing diversity and inclusion in HR policies and recruitment processes.
In her new role, she will lead the day-to-day operations of the organisation and its team. Together with the partner group, she will shape the strategic direction of the firm in the Dutch market.
Boston Consulting Group entered the Netherlands in 1993 through a merger with a local firm. Today, the firm has a team of around 400 consultants and staff in its Amsterdam office, generating revenues of approximately €220 million.
Commenting on the appointment, Pranay Jhunjhunwala, Managing Partner for the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Belgium, said: “I am very excited that Tessa is taking on this role as Managing Partner of the office, and that with her clear vision she will take our Amsterdam operations to the next level.”
Van Swieten said: “I look forward to taking on this role at a time when organisations are under significant pressure to adapt and move faster. Whether it is scaling AI, navigating geopolitical uncertainty, or accelerating the energy transition, the challenges are complex and urgent. Our role is to help clients turn their ambitions into measurable results by combining local expertise with Boston Consulting Group’s global capabilities.”
Dirk-Maarten Molenaar
Van Swieten officially takes the reins on 1 May, when Dirk-Maarten Molenaar completes his five-year term in the role (BCG rotates its office managing partner positions). Under his leadership, the firm grew by more than 20% in the Dutch market and expanded several of its service lines, including in areas such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, supply chain, procurement, and technology enablement.
Molenaar will remain with BCG and focus more on client work in areas such as tourism and transport, smart cities, and infrastructure. “It has been a privilege to lead BCG in the Netherlands over the past five years. I hand over the leadership of the office to Tessa with great confidence and am convinced she will build on the momentum we have created.”
Boston Consulting Group was founded in 1963 in the United States. The firm employs approximately 33,500 people worldwide and reported revenues of $14.4 billion last year.
