European M&A advisory firm Clearwater appoints Michael Ingelög as Chair

Clearwater, one of Europe’s larger M&A advisory firms, has appointed Michael Ingelög as Chair.

Based in Sweden, Michael Ingelög brings experience as both an adviser and a founder, giving him first-hand insight into the opportunities and pressures facing businesses and management teams.

He previously held senior leadership roles at Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, and UBS before co-founding digital mortgage platform Stabelo Group. Alongside a number of entrepreneurial and board leadership roles, he has also held chair and advisory positions across technology and growth businesses.

In his new role at Clearwater, he will work closely with the firm’s leadership teams across Europe.

With a team of over 475 people working across offices in 13 countries, Clearwater is one of the continent’s larger M&A consultancies in the mid-market segment. The firm also supports its clients – businesses, private equity firms and investors – with debt advisory and restructuring services.

Last year, Clearwater completed 202 transactions worth €11.2 billion, including 88 cross-border deals, and raised more than €6 billion through its debt advisory practice.

Bruce Weir, Chief Operations Officer at Clearwater, said: “Michael brings a perspective that is hugely valuable because he’s experienced business from every angle – as a senior adviser, entrepreneur, investor, and chairman. It’s a combination that few have, and it gives him a strong understanding of both the human and strategic side of building businesses, which makes him a great cultural fit for us.”

“He also brings deep international experience and an entrepreneurial mindset that strongly aligns with Clearwater’s culture. At a time when clients are navigating increasingly complex and fast-moving markets, Michael’s relationship-led approach and insight will be hugely valuable to both our teams and our clients.”

On his appointment, Ingelög said: “Clearwater has built something very strong across Europe and I’m looking forward to working with the teams across the business in this next stage of growth.”
