Qvartz establishes Latin American presence with Mirow & Co alliance
Nordic-headquartered management consultancy Qvartz has entered the Latin American consulting market through an alliance with Mirow & Co, a local consulting firm led by several former McKinsey & Company consultants.
It has been busy times for Qvartz’s team tasked with delivering the firm’s international expansion ambition. Since its launch in 2002 in Denmark, Qvartz has pursued a gradual growth strategy, with the past years seeing the firm grow from a regional player in the Nordics into a player with a near global reach. After moving into Germany a while back, Qvartz last year ventured into Asia with a Singapore office, and the US, the globe’s largest consulting market by a distance, with a locale in New York. 2018 has so far all been about accelerating the drive – offices were opened in the Netherlands and India through partnerships with local players, while the recent acquisition of BusinessMinds added teams in Sydney, Manila and Copenhagen.
In a similar approach to that with Boer & Croon (Netherlands) and UC Strategy (India), Qvartz has now struck an alliance with Mirow & Co, a Brazil-headquartered consulting firm with hubs in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo, as well as a third office based in Barcelona, serving Spain’s €1.4 billion management consulting industry.
“At Qvartz, our open garden ecosystem constitutes an important part of the way we do business, connecting experience and skills across the globe to deliver impactful solutions to our clients. Consequently, we are excited to announce that we have entered yet another valuable partnership with Brazil-based consulting company, Mirow & Co,” the firm wrote on LinkedIn.
The move opens up a $2.6 billion consulting industry to the Scandinavians, with Mirow & Co’s home market Brazil estimated to represent nearly half of the entire market. “Mirow & Co. possess deep market knowledge and industry insights in the Latin American region and bring in a large client network. We share the same values and business mindset and have been working closely together on projects for the past year. The partnership is a strong addition to our open garden ecosystem and enables us to strengthen our global footprint and solidify our presence in the region.”
Mirow & Co was established in 2012 by Andreas Mirow, who previously worked for McKinsey & Company, where he latterly held the role of Principal, and Strategy& (formerly Booz & Company and Booz Allen Hamilton), where he was a Senior Associate when he left to rival McKinsey. At McKinsey, Mirow grew to become a leader in the firm’s Atlanta office, after which he was granted the top role for the firm’s Rio de Janeiro (2009 - 2012).
Under his leadership, Mirow & Co has grown to a team of around 25 consultants, of which many hold a background at McKinsey & Company. Mirow has for instance poached Elmar Gans (now a partner at Mirow & Co and formerly an Engagement Manager at McKinsey), Mathias Becker (now a partner at Mirow & Co and formerly McKinsey’s Energy industry lead in Brazil) and Steffen Eberle and André Lima, both partners at Mirow & Co, from his previous employer.
Mirow & Co helps clients in the areas of Strategy, Operations, Innovation, Marketing & Sales, Turnaround and People & Organisation. “Our team consists of highly experienced professionals from both strategic consulting firms and distinguished executive positions in many sectors. We’ve been hired by more than 90% of our clients for further projects after completing the first one,” said Mirow about the firm’s track record.
