Navigant adds senior energy experts in the UK and Netherlands

Global consulting firm Navigant has added two senior energy experts to its Energy practice in Europe. Jan-Willem Bode joins as a Director in the UK, while fellow Dutchman Bertil Heerink has been appointed a Director in the Netherlands at Navigant’s subsidiary Ecofys.

Jan-Willem Bode brings with him more than 20 years of experience in energy and climate change, specialised in strategy, business models, finance, project development and energy transition. Bode previously worked for Ecofys, a Navigant company – the US consulting firm acquired Ecofys in November 2016, adding around 150 consultants to its Energy practice. In his most recent role at Ecofys, Bode between 2006 and 2007 led the firm’s Spanish operations, which he according to his LinkedIn account managed to turnaround from a lossmaking business into a profitable one.

More recently, Bode served as CEO of OneCarbon, a company that finances projects globally that reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases, and as co-founder and CEO of Mongoose Energy, a community energy company in the United Kingdom that developed, acquired, and financed more than £100 million of community-owned renewable assets. Bode is also a former investment banker with SocGen. 

At Navigant, Bode is focused on markets in Europe and the Middle East, leading the region’s strategy and technology team and driving the integration of climate and policy work within the utility sector. He also serves clients in the financial and corporate sectors, advising on long-term climate risk. Jan-Willem Bode & Bertil HeerinkBertil Heerink has gained extensive government policy experience gained through roles with the Dutch government and the European Commission, in the role helping government and NGO clients navigate the areas of energy, environment, and climate change. Heerink served the Dutch government’s Environment Ministry as head of European Union (EU) affairs, and as counselor of embassy in the permanent representation to the EU. Additionally, he was a member of the of the EC’s climate change negotiating team, responsible for the political contacts with the United States and Japan. 

Heerink has further experience in management gained from various Brussels-based European trade associations focused on chemicals (Cefic; European Chemical Industry Council), personal care (Cosmetics Europe), and and renewable energy (EREF; The European Renewable Energies Federation). He joins Ecofys as a Director and is based in Utrecht and Brussels.
