Grigoris Zarifopoulos, the former Deputy Minister of Digital Governance of Greece, has joined global consulting firm Oliver Wyman as a partner.

Based out of Athens, Zarifopoulos has become a member of the firm’s Digital practice, and will co-lead the activities in Greece, together with Euan Robertson, a partner in the firm’s Financial Services practice.

“Greece is a strategic market for Oliver Wyman,” said Claudio Torcellan, Market Leader for Southeast Europe at Oliver Wyman. “We’re delighted to welcome Grigoris – he will play a leading role in our growth plan and oversee our digital services to clients.”

Zarifopoulos brings more than two decades of experience to the consulting firm. As Deputy Minister of Digital Governance, he was in charge of the country’s national digital strategy, and of attracting foreign direct investment in digital technology.

“Joining the Greek government in 2019 was a turning-point for me. It was incredibly motivating to drive my country’s digital leap, contribute to our growth, and help improve the lives of thousands of people. That kept me going every day, despite the many challenges brought by the pandemic,” he said.

Prior to his governmental role, Zarifopoulos spent several years at Google, leading its development in Southeast Europe as head of the region, and CEO for Greece, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Malta. He started his career as Development Engineer at Seagate Technology, a disk drive manufacturer in the United States.

Since leaving the Greek Government, Zarifopoulos has been working as an independent consultant, advising companies on business strategy and digital transformation.

“I look forward to work with the team at Oliver Wyman to help our clients thrive, create sustainable growth, and boost investments in the country.”

Last year, Greece’s strategic consulting segment saw Bain & Company join the landscape. The firm’s market entry is led by Dimitris Psarris, who previously was managing partner of Oliver Wyman’s Athens office.
