AllChiefs co-launches report on net zero transition in the logistics industry
AllChiefs, Smart Freight Centre and the Rotterdam School of Management have launched their ‘Net Zero Logistics Delivered Report’, shedding light on the state of sustainability in the logistics sector and what steps can be taken to speed up the transition to net zero.
In 2023, the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics published their annual ‘State of Supply Chain Sustainability’ report. The study found that only 35% of the 2.300 global participants reported having net zero goals and half of this group of companies are not measuring scope 3.
Concerned about this reality, and with a shared mission to reduce emissions and achieve net zero logistics by 2050, AllChiefs, Smart Freight Centre and the Rotterdam School of Management have come together to gather actionable insights from industry leaders of those 35%.
The researchers set out to understand how the logistics ecosystem can be a fully sustainable industry, providing practical solutions and best practices for organisations to deploy and accelerate their net zero journeys. To achieve this, they brought together expertise from over 75 participants, conducted more than 50 in-depth interviews, and analysed at least 25 research reports from leading institutions, resulting in over 20 company case studies providing insights and inspirations.
Major organisations like DHL, C.H Robinson, IATA, Bayer, Cargill, Port of Rotterdam, Mars, Colruyt Group, among many others, have contributed to the report, sharing their visions, innovative solutions, and best practices to decarbonise logistics.
The 10 key criteria for companies to move to net zero logistics
The authors developed a ‘Net Zero Readiness’ assessment to serve as a strategic tool to help companies gauge how prepared they are to achieve net zero emissions and logistics. One of the main conclusions is that is critical for companies to integrate sustainability into their daily business operations.
The report highlights additional company case studies designed to provide insights and inspiration to progress in their path to net zero. It delves into the challenges that lie ahead and strategies to overcome them, identifies key management practices crucial for implementing successful solutions, and assesses the current state of sustainable supply chains and logistics across industries.
