OHROS Consulting Group guides Vattenfall to ISO certification for EV charging assets
Northern European energy giant Vattenfall has achieved the ISO 55001 certification for its EV charging stations in the Netherlands. OHROS Consulting Group guided the process from planning to certification.
Solna-headquartered Vattenfall is a leading European energy company that produces and supplies electricity and heat. The company operates in several European countries, and has a particularly strong presence in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany, and the Netherlands.
Vattenfall’s EV business unit offers electric vehicle charging infrastructure and services. In three countries – Sweden, Germany and The Netherlands – Vattenfall operates its own public and fast-charging stations at strategic locations. These stations, branded as InCharge, provide for around 4 million charging sessions per year.
In total, Vattenfall operates around 78,000 charging points in Northern Europe.
A robust asset management system
Running and keeping all these assets up to the highest standards is a key objective for Vattenfall. In its pursuit for excellence, the energy group with success adopted the ISO 55001 standard – the world’s most used international standard for asset management systems.
Applicable to all types of assets and organizations, the ISO 55001 standard provides a framework for organizations to manage their assets effectively, optimize their use, and ensure they meet necessary safety and performance requirements throughout their lifecycle.
By operating its assets according to the ISO 55001 standard, Vattenfall has been able to enhance its operational transparency, improve its regulatory readiness, and ensure better alignment between its asset management strategy and company-wide strategic objectives.
OHROS Consulting Group
The ISO 55001 certification process was guided by OHROS Consulting Group. Through the firm’s vast experience in asset management, Vattenfall was able to leverage best practices from other asset-intensive industries such as energy, oil & gas, and municipalities, and adapt these to the unique specifics of its business and the e-mobility sector.
OHROS Consulting Group supported Vattenfall with building the right level of excellence in processes, systems and governance, and with the preparation for the independent audit.
“In today’s fast-evolving e-mobility landscape, where uptime, safety, and asset reliability directly impact brand reputation and market position, an asset management system delivers the data-driven foundation required to maximize asset value throughout its lifecycle,” said Ennio Neumann Senese, CEO at OHROS Consulting Group.
Raising the bar
According to records from Vattenfall and ISO, the Swedish energy group has become the first Charge Point Operator (CPO) in the world to achieve this certification for its e-mobility asset management footprint.
“This milestone in the Netherlands raises the bar for how our EV charging infrastructure should be managed: ensuring reliability for users, grip on lifecycle costs, risk resilience, and a commitment to continuous improvement,” stated Vattenfall.
In the coming years, Vattenfall has the ambition to rapidly scale its charging points for electric vehicles across Europe to around half a million units by 2030.
