Markus Schmid departs goetzpartners for A.T. Kearney
Global management consulting firm A.T. Kearney has bolstered its Restructuring practice in Germany with the addition of Markus Schmid.
The newly appointed Partner and Managing Director joined A.T. Kearney at the start of this month from goetzpartners, a German-origin management consulting firm. Schmid spent nearly seven years at the firm in several leadership roles, and latterly served as Head of its Restructuring & Post Merger Integration practice and Co-Head of the Telecommunications, Media and Technology (TMT) division.
The 53-year-old brings over 25 years of experience to A.T. Kearney, including 15 years of consulting engagements under his belt. Prior to goetzpartners, Schmid served as a board member of German marketing and communications agency PACT Group, and was CEO of Primacom, Tele Columbus and Sky Austria, as well as CMO at Sky Germany.
As a consultant, he worked with several major TMT brands including Deutsche Telekom, Telefónica, O2, Sony, Swisscom and TomTom. This experience – gained at both sides of the table – has groomed him into an expert in telecommunications and media as well as in adjacent high-tech and industrial sectors.Schmid specialises in management and transformation, having led companies through change processes, and in restructuring and post-merger integration, having been part of several major mergers & acquisitions, integrations and carve-outs. He has also gained extensive experience advising clients on new business models, digital transformation, customer life-cycle management, and profitability programmes.
“With his many years of experience in top management consulting and executive roles at well-known companies, he perfectly complements our portfolio of services,” said Martin Eisenhut, who leads A.T. Kearney in Germany and the Central Eastern European region.
Schmid is housed in the firm’s Restructuring practice, which launched in the region in May 2018. The arm helps clients with financial distress, administration, restructuring and interim crisis management. “The team comprises consultants with deep expertise in cost transformation and operational excellence, supported by a network of high-profile Chief Restructuring Officers (CROs) and Chief Transformation Officers (CTOs) with a track record in the field,” said Eisenhut.
Commenting on the addition, Nils Kuhlwein von Rathenow, formerly a Partner at McKinsey & Company and Roland Berger and currently Head of A.T. Kearney’s Restructuring practice in Germany, said, “I look forward to working with Markus.”
Speaking of his new challenge, Schmid said; “Restructuring and transformation are becoming increasingly relevant to a variety of companies due to changing market conditions and digitisation. A.T Kearney’s approach provides clients with a holistic methodology combined with deep functional expertise complemented by cutting-edge data science capabilities.”
Earlier in his career, Schmid worked three years for goetzpartners in his first spell at the consulting firm and five years for Accenture, where he started his career.
