Magnus Energy strengthens consulting practice with Walter de Leeuw
Magnus Energy has strengthened its consulting practice with Walter de Leeuw, who brings more than two decades of industry experience to the firm.
Appointed as a Director, Walter de Leeuw will help expand Magnus Energy’s advisory offerings to clients in the energy utilities landscape, which includes transmission system operators (TSOs), distribution system operators (DSOs), European bodies in the electricity industry, and other players in the power and energy transition value chain.
“What excites me most about Magnus Energy is that the firm is entirely focused on the energy transition. Also, the team combines in-depth technical expertise with strong project management and strategic consulting capabilities, and works on projects across Europe,” said De Leeuw on his move.
“My focus will be on guiding clients from strategy to implementation: helping them navigate the ever-evolving energy transition. Supporting strategic decision-making, resolving operational hurdles, and leading the transformation that is needed. Together with our clients and our team, I aim to make a real, positive impact.”
De Leeuw joins Magnus Energy from BearingPoint, where he spent six years. There, he guided several large-scale programs, including a project focused on improving forecasting and market activation as part of the energy transition, and a project that helped another DSO develop new contractual models for solar parks.
Before that, he worked for an energy-focused consulting firm and for KPMG, where he began his career as a management consultant focusing on transformation and performance improvement projects in the financial sector.
“But during my early years at KPMG, I realised I wanted to apply my consulting skills to something with broader societal impact – the future of our energy system. That’s why I joined Alliander [a Dutch DSO] to work on major transformation programs shaping the energy transition from within.”
Fast forward to today, and De Leeuw is convinced that the energy transition is “one of the most critical challenges” of our time. “It shapes how we live, work, and move. Its complexity demands more than technical innovation – it requires new ways of working together. For me, the real satisfaction comes from helping organisations make that transition tangible and lasting.”
Welcoming De Leeuw to the firm, Alexander van der Mark, Managing Director of Magnus Energy said: “Walter brings along a strong mix of consulting experience, deep sector insights, and leadership. His ability to translate strategy into actionable change aligns perfectly with our ambition to help clients in the utilities sector even better.”
