A year as an independent firm has been highly promising for DuPont Sustainable Solutions, with the global operations and health & safety consultancy enjoying growth in headcount and revenue.

DuPont Sustainable Solutions (DSS) was an integrated part of DuPont’s service offerings for around five decades before the strategic decision was made last year to split the two companies. As an independent firm, DSS would be able to leverage its years of experience and expertise at DuPont and combine it with the agility of a small, modern operation.

A year on, this principle has translated into reality with more than satisfactory results, despite an ongoing global pandemic. The firm grew by 8% year-on-year in its first six months of independence, and expanded its global headcount by 7% to reach over 900 employees. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the firm currently operates across 38 global locations, spanning the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.

In terms of service offerings, DuPont Sustainable Solutions partners with clients to support with employee & asset protection, operational excellence, innovation and skills development, among others. No doubt, Covid-19 has been hard on some of the firm’s propositions, however, certain offerings have come into the limelight during the crisis.

For instance, technology is at the centre of the firm’s activities, with strong offerings in the area of data analytics and other industry 4.0 technologies. Among the flagship offerings launched by DSS this year is an artificial intelligence-based safety tech, which includes: solutions for ensuring social distancing, health monitoring through a check-in system, and zero or low-touch equipment that can transmit data and communications.

These initiatives fit into a broader spike in tech investments, which also includes DSS Transform – a Software as a Service (SaaS) offering that facilitates digital transformations. Throughout its first year, DSS has seen strong demand for these services among its clientele, which spans largely capital and labour intensive industries such as oil & gas, chemicals, building & construction, mining & metals, utilities and transportation, to name a few.

To serve burgeoning demand in the resource industry, for instance, DSS acquired Toronto-based Lodestone Partners – an operations consultancy specialised in the mining & metals sector. The acquisition was completed this February.

“I am very proud of all that DuPont Sustainable Solutions has achieved as an independent company during the past year,” said CEO Davide Vassalo, who made special note of the firm’s rallying effort during the ongoing crisis.

“Despite the difficulties presented by the Covid-19 pandemic, DSS has thrived, innovated, successfully solved our clients’ challenges and strongly positioned itself to deliver sustainable results for our clients well into the future. I’m excited for what the future holds, and on behalf of DSS’ employees around the globe, I would like to thank our clients for being a part of this journey with us during this past year,” said Vassalo.

And its not just the CEO who’s been happy with the firm’s work. Within the first year of independence, the firm has been ranked the top Environmental, Health & Safety consulting firm by Verdantix, and among the top asset productivity & reliability consultancies by ALM Intelligence, among other accolades.
