Nokia taps TCS for digital human capital management transformation

Finnish telecom giant Nokia has selected Tata Consultancy Services to help revamp and digitise the company’s HR operations for its global workforce in more than 130 countries.

Part of its ‘One Nokia Digital’ strategy, the telecom company has set the ambition to digitise and automate much of its back-office processes, with different digital transformation projects running concurrently to achieve this goal.

A technology partner for some 15 years, Tata Consultancy Services is supporting a number of digital initiatives, with the latest deal seeing the India-headquartered group add a major win in the human resources (HR) space.

“TCS has been working closely with Nokia for years, supporting initiatives across applications, IT, business verticals and R&D functions. We are thrilled to expand our long-standing relationship to help Nokia transform their HCM platform, leveraging our deep contextual knowledge, technology prowess and functional expertise”, said V Rajanna, a leader at TCS.

At the core of the project is the replacement of Nokia’s current on-premise HR systems with a new suite of solutions powered by Oracle Fusion Cloud Human Capital Management. The transition will coincide with a large standardisation of HR processes, and a harmonisation, with the project to impact Nokia’s HR staff across all corners of the globe.

“This transformation will make daily work more efficient for HR employees and will provide managers with actionable insights and analytics to support key workforce initiatives. It will enable Nokia to provide a consistent employee experience across teams and more easily manage and scale HR services globally,” said Rajanna.

Commenting on the hiring of TCS for this project, Alan Triggs, Chief Digital Officer at Nokia, said: “TCS is a key enabler in supporting Nokia’s digitalisation and transformation. We look forward to strengthening our relationship with TCS.”

The company’s Interim Chief People Officer, Lisbeth Nielsen, added: “As we put our people at the heart of everything we do at Nokia, our aim is to continuously improve the employee experience. We count on TCS to redesign almost all our people related processes to drive simplification and to reduce bureaucracy.”
