Automotive groups Volkswagen and Volvo have both brought in consulting firms to help them with digital transformation programmes.

Scandinavian premium brand Volvo has tapped French-origin IT services company Capgemini to help with the modernisation of its IT landscape. As part of the three-year agreement, Capgemini will deliver services in business transformation, technology transformation, application development, application management and support, project services, hosting, security service desk, and onsite support.

In addition, Capgemini will serve as Volvo’s main provider of SAP consulting and technology services – the Sweden headquartered automotive group uses SAP as its core ERP system. Capgemini’s delivery will be provided by its global delivery centers in Sweden, Belgium, USA, China, Poland and India.

Capgemini was selected out of several consulting and technology firms, standing out “for its ability to enable large and complex transformations, its global expertise within both business and IT environments, and its proven track record for delivering digital transformation solutions to the global automotive industry,” said Anil Agarwal, who is President of the firm’s Scandinavian organisation.VW and Volvo select consultants for digital transformation projectsMeanwhile in Spain, the Spanish distributor of Volkswagen (Volkswagen España Distribución) has tapped the services of Cognizant to help the unit improve its customer experience offering. The project is part of a company-wide digital transformation programme, said Miguel Ángel Iglesias, CIO of the Spanish business. The company is the distributor of vehicles, customer care services, spare parts and accessories, as well as mobility solutions, for Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and Volkswagen brands in the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

The project focuses on streamlining fleet sales management and on improving the customer contact center user experience. Leveraging the power of Salesforce, Volkswagen España Distribución will use centralised data governance to provide both fleet sales and services management with real-time access from anywhere, enabling enhanced insight and decision-making.

Commenting on the engagement, Santosh Thomas, a leader at Cognizant, said, “The new single customer relationship management platform puts Volkswagen España Distribución’s teams in closer, more continuous contact with clients and partners. It will provide a single, integrated repository for knowledge acquired by their sales and contact teams, plus a means for better managing the relationship, sales and customer care process, and ultimately enhancing the relationship experience with customers.”

Cognizant was chosen for its “proven track record of planning and delivering complex, international projects in the Salesforce domain”, said Ángel Iglesias. The engagement will be delivered by its digital consultants in Spain, supported by its Customer Success Centre in Barcelona.
