Eline de Goeij on her first months with Anderson MacGyver

Eline de Goeij recently joined Anderson MacGyver, a firm that advises organisations on complex issues at the intersection of organisation, data, and technology. We sat down with Eline to learn more about her first four months, her role and why she feels the firm and its culture are a perfect fit for her ambitions.

From the very first moment, Eline felt she had found the right team. The depth of expertise, combined with “the human touch” was crucial to her feeling at home.

“The way they work and think, and the genuine enthusiasm and interest, gave me complete confidence that this was the right place for me,” Eline begins. “We always strive for high quality and impact here, but always with a focus on the individual – both the client and the colleague. There’s room for reflection, asking critical questions, and continuously improving yourself and your work.”

Her first days at Anderson MacGyver were intense, as she immediately embarked on a project with a client in the midst of a crucial phase. “It felt like jumping on a train from a standstill while it was already moving at full speed,” recalls Eline.

This meant that Eline had to adapt quickly, understand different interests, and manage multiple priorities simultaneously. At the same time, the structured onboarding process and mentoring from colleagues ensured she quickly settled into her role.

“During that process, I learned about the way of working, the concepts, the DNA, and all the building blocks of Anderson MacGyver. This immediately confirmed my feeling: Anderson MacGyver has its own well-thought-out vision of how technology, data, and organisation intertwine, and that vision is woven into everything we do. Not only in our approach, but also in how we collaborate and communicate.”

Openness and togetherness

What struck her most during her first few weeks at her new employer was the strong sense of community and belonging.

“Everyone is genuinely interested in each other, knows what’s going on with their colleagues, and takes the time to brainstorm, both substantively and personally. Whether you have a question about a client case or your own development, there’s always someone willing to share ideas or offer valuable insights. That openness and willingness to help each other feels like something typical of Anderson MacGyver,” says Eline.

Her current project sees her working for a large international American company, where she coordinates IT resource and procurement management. “In concrete terms, this means I frequently have to switch between different teams, such as IT leads, hiring managers, and an external vendor.”

Her role has clear PMO elements. She maintains an overview, ensures processes run smoothly, and makes sure that “the right people are present at the table at the right time.” In this dynamic environment, she is “constantly working on coordination, planning, and improving collaboration between internal and external stakeholders from around the world.”

“Anderson MacGyver has its own well-thought-out vision of how technology, data, and organisation come together.”

A diverse learning curve

The diverse and complex work has helped her hone leadership and communication skills. The role is primarily a combination of operational responsibility and strategic thinking, she says.

“What makes it interesting is that I’m right in the thick of the operation, but at the same time, I’m thinking about how things can be done smarter or more efficiently. This way, I learn a lot about how large IT organisations work.”

That was exactly what she was hoping for. Her decision to join Anderson MacGyver was preceded by a well-considered move into consultancy, something she says was “a conscious choice for me from the moment I chose the master’s in strategic management, driven by the dynamism and steep learning curve the sector offers.”

“In consultancy you get the opportunity to help many different organisations with urgent and complex challenges, often at a high decision-making level, and that is precisely what makes the work so interesting for me.”

“What also appeals to me is that management consultancy offers the opportunity to remain curious and constantly ask questions. That inquisitive attitude is not only accepted at Anderson MacGyver, but actually encouraged, and that fits perfectly with who I am.”

Crossing paths

Eline first came across her new employer through LinkedIn, where she saw several job postings. Her curiosity led her to the firm’s website, where she “quickly got the feeling this was a special group of people: passionate, proud of their work, and with a clear vision of the connection between organisation, technology, and data.”

She explains further: “Anderson MacGyver is an organisation with a strong foundation of knowledge and expertise, with a strong focus on both substantive and personal development.”

In Eline’s experience, it wasn’t a standard application process, either. She was asked early on if she was interested and whether she “felt a connection.” Amid this “genuine search for a good fit on both sides,” she saw that “the human element is deeply ingrained in the culture of Anderson MacGyver.”

“During the interviews, it also became clear how interesting and in-depth the work is. I was particularly drawn to the multimodal approach, which integrates technology, data, and organisation,” she adds.

Balance between learning and doing

In the coming years, Eline hopes to gain broad experience with various clients and issues. By working as a team on complex and strategic issues at a high level, she aims to gain experience across the full spectrum of the profession. “It’s precisely this variety that helps me discover my strengths and what energises me.”

This will require striking the right balance, however. “On the one hand, gaining knowledge and insights from colleagues and clients, and on the other, demonstrating increasing responsibility and ownership within projects. I think it’s valuable to work on both strategic and implementation projects, not only to provide direction but also to contribute to the execution.”

As she looks back on her first four months, Eline reflects with gratitude: “I’ve learned a lot, from clients, colleagues, and myself. And that’s exactly what I was looking for: a place where I’m challenged, where I can grow, and where I’m part of a team that works together with conviction and enjoyment on complex issues.”
