Equine Care Group onboards new investor CNP for next growth phase
Equine Care Group, an international provider of equine care services, has been acquired by Belgium-based private equity company CNP. M&A advisors from seven professional services firm helped bring the transaction to a successful close.
Founded in 2021 by equine veterinarians Tom Mariën and Frederik Bruyninx, Equine Care Group (ECG) has rapidly grown into an international services provider and network for equine healthcare. Today, the company treats over 50,000 horses annually and serves clients in more than 70 countries.
Investor Bencis, a Dutch private equity fund, has been part of Equine Care Group’s growth since its early days, and has now handed over its majority stake to CNP, a private investment company controlled by the Frère family (one of the richest business families in the country). Bencis will retain a minority shareholding.
Financial terms and conditions of the deal have not been disclosed. Seller Bencis was advised during the deal by Rothschild & Co, Bain & Company, Eight Advisory, Argo Law, and A&O Shearman. Buyer CNP meanwhile was advised by Bain & Company, PwC and Cleary Gottlieb.
Next growth chapter
With its new private equity owner on board, ECG aims to embark on its next chapter of growth, said CEO Mariën: “Since our inception, ECG has grown by uniting equine hospitals, ambulatory practices, labs, and nutritional specialists into one collaborative, mission-driven network. With CNP’s support, we are ready to accelerate our international growth and set a new global benchmark in equine veterinary care.”
Key goals including significantly expanding its footprint in North America, South America, Australia, and the Middle East. ECG also plans to invest in launching new clinics, acquire practices to accelerate its growth, and expand its research and education activities.
Bruyninx stated: “This partnership marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Together with CNP, we will strengthen ECG’s ecosystem and bring our veterinarian-led, collaborative approach to new markets worldwide.”
