Big Four consulting firms EY and KPMG have appointed two women to top level positions in Romania. Ramona Jurubiţă has been appointed the country manager for KPMG, while Aurelia Costache was named head of business advisory at EY.

While women continue to face barriers to progression in the corporate world, especially in the higher echelons of the corporate management structure (where women make up less than a quarter), two Big Four firms in Romania are doing their part to drive change with a pair of high-level promotions.

Ramona Jurubiţă, previously the Deputy Senior Partner and Head of Tax and Legal with KPMG in Romania, replaces Şerban Toader as the new country manager. Jurubita, 40, specialises in taxation and is a graduate of the Faculty of Finance, Insurance, Banks and Stock Exchanges ASE Bucharest and the Law Faculty of the Romanian-American University.

Jurubiţă will now manage the 780 person division of KPMG, a leading firm in the Romanian professional services market, spanning audit, tax, financial advisory and management consulting.

Reflecting on the appointment, publication Ziarul Financiar sees the appointment as a shift toward the next generation of business leaders in Romania, as Toader was part of the first generation of leaders in the post-Soviet 1990s.

Aurelia Costache takes over as head of EY Romania’s business advisory business unit, after coordinating the company’s financial services consultancy division for the past three years. Costache was also involved in launching EY’s global Center of Excellence for robotic process automation (RPA). Costache, who holds an EMBA from Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussees Paris and a post-graduate diploma in International Business at the Edinburgh University, has over 20 years of experience as a consultant in banking and telecom.

In recent months, fellow Big Four firm Deloitte added five professionals to its senior ranks. Raluca Bontas has been promoted to partner, while Ramona Trusculescu, Raluca Baldea, Andreea Gheorghe and Andreea Zoescu all were appointed to director.
